Ask Your Mayors to Show Their Support for the Land and Water Conservation Fund

Print

At this time of national fiscal crisis, investments that create jobs and grow our economy must be paramount. The Land and Water Conservation Fund has delivered significant benefits to our economy and communities through preservation of clean water, land, and wildlife habitat for current and future generations.  Surveys show that Americans solidly support investment in public parks and open spaces.  Indeed, the Fund has been a good investment: Every dollar spent results in a return of four dollars. And use of outdoor space has grown significantly during the economic crisis.

City Parks Alliance is working to build continued support from our nation’s mayors for this important source of non-taxpayer-funded investment in our communities.  In June, the U.S. Conference of Mayors adopted a resolution supporting the Land and Water Conservation Fund as critical to the goal that “everyone in urban America should live within a short walk of a park that is clean, safe and vibrant.” The resolution calls for greater support for urban parks from the Obama Administration, U.S. Congress, U.S. Mayors and the private sector, including full funding of LWCF and the America's Great Outdoors Initiative.

CPA members and partners make up a strong nationwide network of influential community leaders. Your voice can make a difference in securing a commitment from public officials to create healthy and vibrant urban parks and open spaces for the 21st Century.  We urge you to show your support of LWCF and to ask your mayor to sign on to the attached letter.   Act now!
